One Night Only

Hi my friend

Gosh! It’s been a long while since we met

Not even once ever since our shifts got over

And we left our respective night jobs to see the sun set

Those coffee breaks where we struggled to stay sober

How could you ever forget?

The midnight appraisals, cheese sandwich and running behind the hours for productivity

It was all so perfect

We were a unique class struggling with quality

Racing to balance the breaks with boyfriends on call

Not to mention wannabe and the betrothed lover

We did have a wonderful ball

Until the time that our issues chose to gather

Fiery arguments over dinner

About leads, errors and client mails

Our joy club started rapid dissolution

And you emerged as winner

Whereas I found new dinner mates as strong as sails

Separate lives we led on the same work floor

The untouchable friends became un speakables

It was like end of days till we threw papers

Only to vanish and remain as mere ex user ID’s in the system

Just thought you would like to know

The cafeteria food never tasted better without your essence

And that was the presence of friendship

Even now at nights when I see the full moon trailing

My spirit calls out in longing

For that one night shift

Where at 12.40 AM you will tap on my desk
